We celebrate President Biden making Juneteenth an official federal holiday. Juneteenth is the day when Union soldiers went to Galveston Texas and delivered the news that the Civil War had ended, and all enslaved Black people were declared legally free. Juneteenth is a day of celebration and an opportunity for all of us to educate ourselves on the barriers black people still face in America. It is now an official holiday at the College.
Here at the College, our mission is to provide a dynamic career-ladder approach to nursing education to improve professional practice and contribute to the health of communities. By working in those communities, our students are working to eliminate the health disparities found far too often in communities of color. Our Diversity, Accessibility & Global Affairs committee is examining progress and need for change on equity, inclusion and community. I hope we remain united in a love of learning, respect and love for all, and act for justice and equality.
Thanks
