COLLEGE PROFILE
Helene Fuld College of Nursing has been educating nurses for over sixty five years. Founded in 1945, Helene Fuld (a private, not-for profit institution) has always been at the forefront of nursing education. Unique to the mission of the College is its career ladder approach. Recognizing nursing as a multi-level career, the College is committed to advancing licensed practical nurses to the associate degree registered nurse level in a one-year full-time program. Students also have the option of attending part-time.
To accommodate the needs of students, classes are held from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Fridays. Clinical classes are held between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Evening classes are generally held between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
Helene Fuld provides upward mobility to a largely minority population and provides critically needed registered nurses to medically underserved areas. Eight-nine percent of currently enrolled students are minority and 85% are female.
The College is located in Harlem, one of the most dynamic and revitalized communities in New York City. Easily accessible from all boroughs, adjacent counties and New Jersey, the College draws students from all of these areas and is conveniently reached by subway, bus or car. Some out-of-state nurses make housing arrangements in New York City in order to attend the College on a commuting basis as the College has no residence facilities.
Graduates are awarded an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree and are prepared to pass the NCLEX-RN examination required by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing and the New York State Education Department, Division of Professional Licensing Services. Graduates practice within the context of the New York State Definition of Registered Professional Nursing and the National League for Nursing's Outcomes and Competencies for Graduates of Practical/Vocational, Diploma, Associate Degree, Baccalaureate, Master's, Practice Doctorate, and Research Doctorate Programs in Nursing (2010), and the College's Educational Goals and Objectives.
