EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES

College facilities include classrooms, conference rooms, nursing arts and science laboratories, Learning Center, Academic Resource Center, and administrative and faculty offices.  Student lounges, lockers, and vending machines are provided.  All facilities are in one convenient location.  Students have access to cafeteria services at North General Hospital and to their parking lot.

LEARNING CENTER

Equipped with 25 Internet-ready IBM compatible computers, the Learning Center is a major resource for the Helene Fuld educational experience.  The Learning Center houses an ever-expanding collection of books and periodicals selected to meet curriculum needs and student and faculty interests.  The library’s collections are supplemented by memberships in resource-sharing consortia.  These partnerships are integrated into the borrowing services provided through the interlibrary loan service and serve to expand the range of materials available to students.  Audiovisual and computer assisted instructional resources supplement classroom instruction, enhance learning and provide a means of independent study and research.

The Learning Center maintains an Intranet portal where course syllabi, book lists, online periodicals and other information are available.

The Learning Center also has space for group study.  For a small fee, students may copy selected pages from non-circulating materials.  Audiocassettes can also be duplicated for home use.  The Learning Center is staffed Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

NURSING ARTS LABORATORIES

The Nursing Arts Laboratories are available for students to practice and review clinical skills, under the guidance of qualified clinical instructors.  During each nursing course which has a clinical component, students are scheduled for lab hours.  The labs are also used to demonstrate selected procedures during nursing workshops and seminars.  The two labs contain advanced technological resources including a computerized patient simulator for demonstration of basic and advanced assessments and acute care practices, as well as video equipment, and a small library of nursing books.  The Nursing Arts Laboratories are open from August through June.  Hours of operation are posted on the doors.

ACADEMIC RESOURCE CENTER

The Academic Resource Center houses a computer lab with 24 internet-ready student workstations where entrance and assessment tests are given.  The Center is also open for student use on certain days of the week, which are posted on the door.  Staff are available to help students.

WRITING CENTER

The Writing Center provides opportunities for students to enhance their writing abilities with one-on-one tutoring.  Students are encouraged to bring in writing samples for critique and assistance. Tutors encourage students to become better writers by identifying their strengths and weaknesses and correcting their own errors.
